When does a crate beat a box?

Cardboard flexes under a load. A wood crate doesn't. It's built around the piece so the piece can't move.

Two Alliance technicians building a pine crate around a marble tabletop, padded with foam and braced
  • It can't be replaced

Original art, heirlooms and collectibles get a solid wood shell and a padded inside.

  • It's worth a lot

A crate is a small cost next to what it protects.

  • It's fragile or an odd shape

A snug fit keeps it still. A chandelier can hang from the top of its crate.

  • It's going a long way

Wood and dense foam hold up through days of road vibration.

  • It's going into storage

A crate keeps its shape through stacking, loading and reloading.

How does a crate get built?

  1. Measure

Every dimension of the piece, plus its weight and weak points.

  2. Build

A plywood and lumber case cut to fit the piece.

  3. Pad and brace

Foam and blocking inside so the piece can't shift.

  4. Open and unpack

We uncrate the piece at the destination.

How do you book a crew?

  1. Tell us what you're moving

Fill out the quote form or call. List the pieces and services, both addresses and your move date.

  2. Approve your moving estimate

Most estimates come back in minutes. Your coordinator confirms the date and arrival window.

  3. Sign off when it's done

Walk through the work with your tech, then sign on their phone. Photos and notes go on your order.

Will you get texts on service day?

On service day, we text you when the crew is on the way. That text includes the arrival time and crew leader's name. We text again if the time changes, if a return visit is needed, and when the job is done.

  1. After booking

    Confirmation call

We call after we accept your job to confirm your contact info and booked services.

  2. Before service day

    Arrival time call

Before service day, the technician calls you with an arrival time.

  3. On the way

    On-the-way text

When the crew leaves for your job, you get a text with the arrival time and crew leader's name.

  4. If plans change

    Update texts

You get a text if the time changes. You get a text to schedule a return visit if needed.

  5. Job done

    Completion text

When the job's done, you get a thank-you text with a review link. If you didn't sign on site, we email to confirm work.

Booking and estimates

Does Alliance do the whole move?

We handle the specialty moving services around your move: crating, TV packing, appliance disconnect and reconnect, furniture disassembly and reassembly, and unpacking. Your moving company loads and drives the truck. Many orders come straight from movers.

How fast can I get a moving estimate?

Most moving estimates come back within minutes. Larger or unusual jobs can take up to one business day.

Is the moving estimate free?

Yes, the estimate is free. Price depends on the pieces, the services and the distance.

Can my moving company book this for me?

Yes, movers book specialty moving services for their customers directly with us. We set the scope, price each service, and send a vendor near the home. Every order gets one named coordinator.

How do I check on my order?

Track your order status online in the customer portal at secure.alliancerelocation.com. Every customer also has a dedicated moving coordinator.

Do you work in my area?

Yes, we serve homes across the United States and Canada. Enter both your origin and destination ZIP codes in the quote form and your coordinator will confirm.

Crating and special pieces

What is crating?

A crate is a wood case built to fit one piece. Foam, boards, or braces inside keep the piece from shifting on the road.

What should I crate?

Crate anything fragile, valuable, or oddly shaped: art, antiques, mirrors, chandeliers, pianos, large TVs, wine, and collectibles. If no box fits it, it probably needs a crate.

Do you unpack crated pieces?

Yes, we open the crate at the destination and unpack the piece.

Do you move pool tables?

Yes, pool table moving is one of our specialty crating services. Slate tables are taken apart. The felt is removed and packed. Each slate goes in its own crate and can weigh 400 to 600 pounds. The origin technician records a condition report. At destination, the table is reassembled and leveled with an electronic level. Re-felting only happens at the customer's request and expense.

Can you take down and rehang a chandelier?

Yes, chandelier removal includes capping the electrical lines per code before the fixture comes down. It's installed at destination wherever the customer specifies. Fixtures hung over nine or ten feet need an extra technician and cost extra. Over 20 feet, call for a quote.

Your technician

Who comes to my home?

An insured technician who has passed a background check comes to your home. We only work with vendors who pass regular reviews.

What else can Alliance arrange?

We also arrange auto transport, boat transport, and domestic and international pet relocation. We can also handle hoisting or rigging for large items that won't fit in an elevator.

What should I do before a tech moves my computer?

Back up all your files first. An external hard drive is recommended for the backup. The original boxes and foam are the best way to move the computer.
